Math Teacher and Hurt Feelings
Dear Guidance Guy,
I am really good friends with my math teacher which I think is cool, but sometimes she does things that hurts my feelings, although I know she isn't doing it on purpose. Sometimes she's mean when she's strict but she's usually not strict. She also played a mean trick on us which was that she told us that we were going to have a math test today even though we weren't and it hurt my feelings because I have an A in that class and tests are worth 60% of our grade so I was afraid that I would get a bad grade and not be able to go to Algebra 1.
I'm not sure if I shoud tell her because I don't know if it's right to feel mad or if I'm being too sensitive.
Sincerely,
Confused

Dear Confused,
This doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but it's obviously bothering you. I don't see anything wrong with letting her know how you feel. Anything you're feeling is OK. And if she gives you a good explanation it will help you to feel better.
The danger is becoming overly sensitive to everything she says. So as you talk to her about how you feel, make sure you understand people will say and do strange things pretty often. It's not a reflection on you. It's just the way they are. And sometimes they'll do wonderful things. It's a good lesson to learn at a young age.
Thanks for your letter,
The Guidance Guy
