Too Much Work, Too Much Stress
Dear Guidance Guy,
I'm in 7th grade and I'm really stressed out. We get way more homework and work than grade six, and I'm always rushing to get all my work handed in on time. Is there a way I can complete all my work without the stress?
Worried and Concerned

Dear W. & C.
Unless you have a teacher with a real mean streak, you're probably getting a normal amount of work for 7th grade. Maybe there's a huge difference between what was given last year and what you're getting now.
One thing you can do is make a time log. Figure out how you are spending your time when you get home and see if there are things you can do to make the most of your time. For example, if you are spending a lot of time chatting or messaging, it takes time away from your homework. And if you try and do your homework while you're doing anything else at the same time, you don't do a good job on any of it!
Clear out some time that will be ONLY for homework. Let the fun activities come later, and make sure you have time for those as well. You're still a kid.
One other thing...if you're having trouble understanding the actual work, it will definitely take longer to do. Maybe one or two extra help sessions with your teachers can clear things up. You can even ask them for suggestions on how to do your homework more quickly at the same time.
Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
