Dear Guidance Guy,

I have a best friend but I can never really talk to her honestly because she will laugh at me. She tells me all her stuff but i just cant tell her about me. She won't tell anyone but will make fun of me. not to be mean but just in a funny way. What do I do?

Dear Friendless,

You need a new best friend, which is the same one we should all have: yourself.

The first thing I'd like you to think about is what a best friend is. Many people think it's important to have a best friend somewhere out there in the world, and that you're somehow "lost" if you don't. I disagree.

I don't want to tell you what to do with this girl - that's your choice. But someone who laughs at you and puts you down doesn't sound like a friend. Maybe being careful about what you tell her is a good start.

But I would love it if you didn't consider yourself "friendless." You seem like a sensitive, caring kid and someone out there would be very lucky to have you as a friend. The right people will come into your life. It's a Guidance Guy Guarantee!
