Dresscode Boycott

Dear Guidance Guy,

My friends and I are going on a boycott to change the dress code. Everyone in the school will be wearing jeans. Do you think it's good idea?

Thanks,
Mandy

Dear Mandy,

It's very rare that things get changed by the kind of action you're doing. This may not be something the principal has control over. Usually the dress code is decided by the board of education or some other group.

I think what's likely to happen is that your principal is going to get mad, figure out who the ringleader is and then punish them. I also think there's a good chance student activities like dances and socials will be taken away.

It's a better idea to sit down with the principal and discuss ways to have events that involve not having the dress code for a certain day. Maybe charity events or special ocassions could be times when you get to do something different. Make sure you talk respectfully. And make sure you LISTEN well.

Best of Luck,The Guidance Guy
