Too Much Pressure, Not Enough Balance
Dear Guidance Guy,
I am currently in Grade 9. I feel that there is way too much pressure at high school. I try to balance out all my activities but there is still too much work to be done. There's usually a new project every week. What should I do?

Dear Jay,
One of the most important jobs for Grade 9 students is to learn how to organize their time. This is the seventh "secret" in my book, So, You Wanna Go To College.... Most ninth grade teachers know kids are learning how to do this, right along with English, Math, Science, etc.
Do you use a planner or datebook? One of the best things to do is break down projects into smaller parts and try to get a little done each day. This way you won't have a giant mess waiting for you the day before your assignment is due. Maybe a teacher, guidance counselor or parent can help you find a system that works for you.
Of course, the most important part is WANTING to be balanced and organized. It may mean putting less time into things that aren't as important, like text-messaging, television, or whatever else isn't productive time. It looks like this is something important to you, and that's a great start.
Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
