Pajama Bottoms In School
Dear Guidance Guy,
At my school they don't let students wear pajama pants, but I love wearing my pj pants to school! Next time I wear them I would get in a lot of trouble. I want kids to sign a petition to Mr. Bright, our principal but people say he won't accept it. Should I get students to sign the petition anyway?

Dear K.B.,
You can get kids to sign a petition if you would like. It might make you feel good to take some action on something you feel strongly about. The other people are right. The chances of your principal accepting the petition are close to zero. He may not have a choice in the matter if the no P.J. rule was passed by the Board of Education. He can also say they are disruptive to the learning environment, and that would probably be the end of it.
What you CAN do is check these things out for yourself. If you're feeling like you want to handle this in a grown-up way, find the rule that says no pajama bottoms, or ask your principal about it. I wonder if there's a way you could come up with a compromise, like a special "pajama bottom day" where people pay to wear them to school and the money goes to charity. Get creative!
Thanks for a fun letter,
The Guidance Guy
