Moving Away From Friends
Dear Guidance Guy,
I have to move to a new school and new home next year. My friends don't want me to go. I don't really feel like going to a new school but I will have to go. I will be in Grade 8 next year. I have been to my school right now for about eight years, since it was built. I know mostly everyone in my school. I will also be seperated from all my friends. What can I do?

Dear Frustrated,
It can be tough making changes in life. This sounds like a big one, at a difficult time. Assuming you don't have a choice to live with someone else and stay with your friends, you'll have to find a way to make the best of the situation. And there are lots of ways to do just that.
The first thing you can do is decide this will be a GOOD thing. If you keep in your head how much you don't want to go or how hard this will be, it will not turn out well. If you decide this is a new chance to make new friends, start over and "reinvent yourself" anyway you'd like, this can be a lot of fun. There are ways people see you now that are good and some that are negative. This is your chance to work on some negatives and keep all the good parts. After all, no one knows you from before.
It is also much easier to keep in touch with your old friends. You can IM with them, call, email, etc. When your parents were kids there were no computers and long distance calls were very expensive. You have some big advantages. Be grateful for all you have and excited about the new adventure you're about to have.
Your Pal,
The Guidance Guy
