First Time On The Basketball Court
Dear Guidance Guy,
I love to play basketball, and I'm really good at it...but I am super nervous about our first game. I've never been on an actual team before. I'm going to be shaking in my shoes. How can I overcome my fear of playing out on the court?

Dear Nervous,
The simplest answer is that time will do it for you. You are only going to be this nervous the first time you do it. After that it becomes easier each time. Very soon, it will be automatic. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.
But there are two good ways to feel a little less nervous. One is to welcome the nervousness you have. It's a natural part of life to be anxious when you do something for the first time. At some point you will get behind the wheel of a car for the first time, go out on your first date (if you haven't already), have your first day of a new job and lots of other things. Almost nobody dies from these experiences. So realize that you're part of a gigantic group of people who survive the experience...and laugh about it later).
The other way to be less nervous is to keep a picture in your head of all the FUN you have playing basketball. How does it feel when you hit a corner jump shot, or steal the ball from the other team? How does it feel when you make the perfect pass to a teammate, or them to you? Concentrate on those feelings when you step onto the court, and the other nervous feelings will get smaller. They'll still be there, but they won't bother you so much.
Go Get 'Em!

I love basketball. I remember when I was nervous like you.
All you have to do is focus on the court nothing else. Just your team mates, opponants, and the ball.
If your a good player, all youll want to do is be on the court and in the game.
