Where Are You, Guidance Guy?

Dear Guidance Guy,

I mailed you earlier this week but you haven't mailed back. I need your advice. When are you gonna mail back?

Tammy

Dear Tammy,

By the time you read this you will have read my answer to your letter. But I wanted to write back to this letter also because it raises some important points...

I am very lucky in that many kids and adults write to me looking for advice and help. I'm glad people value my advice and I take it very seriously. I try to give the best advice I can. I'm also a regular guidance counselor, businessman, husband and dad. These things take up my time, so I answer one letter a day. If someone needs or wants more help, I give private coaching. Anyone can go to http://www.larryhochman.biz/ if they want to know more about this service. Sometimes it takes a while to get an answer, based on the number of letters I get.

The more important thing for you, Tammy is that you shouldn't be depending on advice from me or anyone else. It's nice that I can give you my experience and wisdom. But kids know more than they think they do. Along the way many people have forgotten just how smart they are. If you leave most people alone - and they stop listening to what their friends tell them to do - I think you'll find many people already know the answers to some of their own questions. Sometimes the best thing I do is confirm to people what they already know...you are smart enough and good enough just the way you are!

I'm glad to give advice, and I'm sorry it took longer than you wanted. I hope you used the extra time to listen to that smart voice within you.

All The Best,
The Guidance Guy
