Studies Less, Gets Better Grades

Dear Guidance Guy

I have a friend who never studies, but he always gets good marks. I work really hard and it's not fair that he ends up doing better than I do. I want to go on beingfriends, but I often feel mad at her. What can I do?

A Frustrated Student

*** *** ***

Dear Frustrated,

It's normal to feel frustrated when you try so hard and don't get the results you want. Maybe the problem isn't that you aren't working hard enough. Maybe you're missing some way of studying that would be helpful. Have you spoken with your teachers about the best ways to study for their tests?

And while you're at it, it would be a great idea to study with your friend ( you referred to her as both a male and female in your letter). See what he/she is doing. Maybe there's a technique you can copy.

It's possible your friend is just a good student. It is fair that the grades are good, because he/she has figured out the best way to work, or is just using their talent well. If it makes you feel any better, someone out there is working even harder than you are and getting worse grades. In fact, there are many kids who would do anything for the opportunities you have. Take advantage of all the good fortune you have.

All The Best,
The Guidance Guy
