Possible Boyfriend (And His Sister)

Dear Guidance Guy,

I have loved this guy ever since I was five years old. He is finally starting to like me and he wants to ask me out but he hasn't yet. His sister is my best friend. I don't want to leave her out on stuff but I love him a lot and its kind of hard to stay with her and him at the same time. She is starting to get mad that I don't hang out with her enough. What should I do?

Thanks,
Tammy

Dear Tammy,

A few questions jumped out at me when I read your letter. How do you know he likes you? How do you know he is getting ready to ask you out? Why is it hard to stay with both of them at the same time? I'd start by asking yourself those questions first.

Assuming he does ask you out and you say yes, there shouldn't be any reason you don't spend time with each of them. Many couples of all ages have time for friends and time for each other. All you have to do is decide how to divide it up. By the way, he gets to do the same thing with his friends.

If the real problem is your friend being jealous, that's her problem, not yours. The worst thing to do is not follow your heart because someone else doesn't want you to do something that makes you happy. Do what's right for you, and let each of your friends do the same for themselves.

Thanks for your letter,
The Guidance Guy
