Overwhelmed

Dear Guidance Guy,

I Have A Middle School Of Over 1200 Kids. My Grades Have Slipped From A's To B's and C's. My crush has a boyfriend. My friends hate me... a lot. My only friend is my crush. Go figure. I get depressed on a regular basis. I can't keep up with everything. I get slammed into the ground everyday, cussed out and get food thrown at me. I have tried telling my counselor, but nothing has been done about it in the past three months.

I really need advice on what to do, because I am so overwhelmed and don't know what to do about it.

Overwhelmed

Dear Overwhelmed,

You are definitely in over your head here. Even if things are as bad as they seem (and it's hard to imagine they are), you're still feeling as if there's no way out. That's not a good situation.

You need to speak with someone about how badly you're feeling. Do your parents know how hard things are for you? It would definitely be helpful to work with a counselor or social worker one on one. Not a guidance counselor, because I'm not sure a regular school counselor has the time you seem to need right now. But maybe your parents and/or counselor could find someone you can talk with and go to work on fixing your problems.

Middle school can be a tough place! But if you can find a way to work through these problems, you'll get better at not feeling overwhelmed. The fact that you're writing and asking for help is a good sign. Now go tell the people who can help you right away how badly you're feeling and how much you want things to change.

Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
