My Ex Gym Teacher Won't Leave Me Alone!
Dear Guidance Guy,
My gym teacher from last year (7th grade) doesnt stop bugging me! It all started about two days after one of my really good friends from school passed away. I was so sad that whole week so I didn't change into my PE clothes because it was all so depressing. She would give me the dirtiest looks! So about two weeks after my friend passed away, she comes up to me and asks me why I haven't changed into my gymclothes so many times those past weeks. I told her it has been so hard for me because of happened and she turned to me and said " I don't care. You are a disappointment." I was so shocked!
Since that day she has made gym class miserable! She went up to me again and said " Look at the people you hang out with. They are bad examples." She pointed to my friend and was playing soccer and said "Look at that friend of yours. all she does is go up to the locker room and look for stuff to steal."
I'm really sick of her little comments! Every time she comes up to me and asks why I'm not dressed I just walk away because I can't stand her anymore! And she's not even my gym teacher this year! What can I do to make her leave me alone?

Dear JD,
It looks to me like this is a teacher who cares about what happens to you, and has stepped over the line in trying to help. Most of us know that making a person feel badly about their choices doesn't work very well. It's much better when someone you like gives you advice or support. It certainly seems like you don't like this teacher very much.
I'd get a parent or guidance counselor involved in this. Because you're in 8th grade it's probably going to be difficult for you to tell her to leave you alone. If you're up for it, you can tell her her comments to you hurt your feelings and you'd like her to stop. But you can also tell your parents or counselor what's going on. Usually, they'll quietly talk with the teacher and ask for her to leave you alone. If this doesn't work, going to the principal might be the next step.
However it works out, I'm glad you're strong enough to know that her opinion of you isn't important. The only opinion that counts is what you think of yourself.
Best of Luck,
The Guidance Guy
