Not Ready For A Relationship
Dear Guidance Guy,
I really like this boy who was in my class last year. He found out, because I know this person who I used to be friends who let him know. Now he does weird stuff around me like he looks at me and stares whenever I see him, when there aren't many other people around. But when we see each other around his friends he always pretends not to see me. He also has purposely bumped into me, but that was around his friends. At a past dance a few days ago, he kept looking at me and sort of seemed like he was following me around.
My problem is, I don't know what he thinks of me. I don't know if he hates me likes me or likes me as a friend. I also don't know what I think of him. I've liked him for a pretty long time now and I was thinking about him the whole summer and during school months all the same. I also blush around him when there's only a few people around besides me and him. Please give me some advice!

Dear Clueless,
It doesn't seem like either of you are ready for a relationship, even a "beginner" one, at least not with each other. There has to be something you have in common and you have to be able to talk with him. It looks like he is showing off in front of his friends by bumping into you. So even if you like each other, this hasn't started off well.
If you can find some way of talking normally with him without the worry of whether or not you like each other, you might at least be able to be friends with him. But neither of you know how to do that right now. I wouldn't ask him through a friend because that usually turns into disaster. And I wouldn't write him a note because it's a guarantee every one of his friends will see it.
My advice: don't worry about what he thinks of you. He's not ready for the great, wonderful person you are. In a short amount of time both of you will be more mature and more confident. Then, if you still like him and he feels the same, it will be much easier to start off a friendship with him - or more.
Your Pal,
The Guidance Guy
