Help From Math Teacher (Not With Math)

Dear Guidance Guy,

OK, so I've been really stressed out lately and I basically feel like my life sucks. I can't stand being at home with my family anymore. Even my friendsare starting to tick me off. Id much rather be at school. For probably the last week I've been talking with my math teacher and he knows exactly whatis happening my school life. I mean it seems like school is the thing causing all of my stress but why would I rather spend my time there? Do you think talking with my teacher is the best way to deal with my emotions at this tough time in my life?

The other thing is though, all of my friends sit there and tease me that I have a crush on my math teacher too. But I don't have a crush on him though. I think that they think this because I talk to him often but all he doing is helping me through my stressed out situation. Its like he's my counselor. He's someone I cantalk to and actually he's the only teacher that I've had that I can talk to for help and stuff.

Thanks,
Anonymous.

Dear Anonymous,

Your math teacher seems like a great guy. You are in the best position to know if he is the right person to help you. If it's working - if you feel better and have more hope for the future, then he's the right person to help. If you still feel like you need someone, try talking with your guidance counselor or even asking your parents for another adult to talk with. You might be surprised and find they're willing to listen. Maybe they will help you find a counselor outside of school.

As for your friends, let them tease you. You know you have a good person at your school who is willing to listen to you. Don't worry about what your friends think. Your true friends will eventually stop teasing you and support you during a tough time. They may even wish they have a great adult to talk with themselves.

All The Best,
The Guidance Guy
